Funeral services for Evangelist Anita Wilson Ashley, of Montrose, will be held on Sunday, September 27, 2020 at 11 AM at the graveside in the Dudley Memorial Cemetery, 600 East Mary Street in Dublin. Apostle James D. Bell will deliver the eulogy.

Anita was born on February 15, 1949, to the parentage of Mr. Andrew "Bud" Wilson and Mrs. Clara Wilson, both preceding her in death.

Anita received her formal education at Millville High School in Dudley in 1968. She was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Deacon James W. Ashley on July 13, 1968. To this union was born a son, the late Mr. Brian K. Ashley, and a daughter, Suewanda S. Foston.

At an early age she joined Millville Baptist Church, where she served faithfully in the roles of Director of the Junior Choir, Sunday School teacher, Missionary, and various other positions. For a few years, she was president of the Women’s Auxiliary Department of the First Rehoboth Association, 12th District. She was a great woman of faith, preaching, teaching, and ministering by carrying the gospel near and far. Never did she get tired of her work for the Lord. On March 30, 2003, a Licensing Ceremony was held in her honor where she was ordained as Evangelist/Missionary Anita W. Ashley. Later, she joined Rose Hill Baptist Church where she worshipped until her health failed.

Evangelist Ashley was a true servant of God whose services extended far beyond the pulpit. During the holidays, she loved preparing large meals and feeding family, friends, or those who were less fortunate. She would clothe those in need and was a caregiver to others, a prayer warrior to many, a melodious soloist, and an organist, just to name a few. She had a love for people and loved helping people. Anita remained a believer in Christ as her Savior who gave her the strength to endure caring for her dear husband and her only son during their illnesses, all the while suffering with her own health issues. She never complained because this was her mission. She was also a poet with a collection of many poems dating back as far as early high school with dreams and aspirations of one day having them published.

She peacefully entered her eternal home on September 23, 2020, after an extended illness, at the age of 71. In addition to her husband and son, Evangelist Ashley was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Lois White of Jacksonville, FL, mother-in-law, Ms. Lueroy Edmond Horne, father-in-law, Mr. Tommy Frank Ashley, and dear aunt, Ms. Mary Brezial. While a resident at Dublinair Nursing Home, she received several loving visits from her beloved fur baby, a dachshund named Million and was saddened by his passing in June of this year.

She leaves to cherish her memories, a loving daughter, Suewanda Sheree (Anthony) Foston; grandchildren, Antwan Josmes and Aaysia Symone Foston all of Dublin and Brian Ramone Ashley of Atlanta; sisters, Vivian Denson and Claretha (Apostle James) Bell both of Dublin, Gerri Carter, Gwendolyn Stanley, and Christine Jones all of Montrose and Ellie Golden of Jacksonville, FL; brothers, Douglas Wilson of Montrose and Robert (Gracie) Wilson of District Heights, MD; brothers-in-law, Allen (Mary) Ashley, Walter (Elaine) Ashley, Garrick Edmond and Alexander Ashley all of Dudley, Wilkie (Sandra) Ashley of Dublin; sisters-in-law, Eudell Sleighmon of Dudley, Betty Jean (George) Howard of Mt. Laurel, NJ, Quincelyn (Tony) Brown and Luddia Fields both of Decatur; a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends; and a very special, heartfelt mention of her "adopted son" who tended to and cared for her as a mother figure, Ray Charles Walters.
