Father of Alfred Deakin [Memorial ID 8480637], second Prime Minister of Australia, William migrated to Australia in December 1849 in the Samuel Boddington, disembarking at Adelaide in March 1850, where one of his married sisters was already living, and where his only daughter [Catherine Sarah Deakin] was born on 21 July 1850. He had married Sarah Bill, daughter of William Augustus Bill, a farmer and stock breeder and his wife Sarah Jones, at Grosmount, County Monmouth, on 18 October 1849. The second of his two children, Alfred Deakin, was born at Fitzroy, Victoria on 3 August 1856. In partnership with Richard Bill, the brother of his wife, he ran a coach business in Gore Street, Fitzroy, later absorbed by Cobb & Co in 1867, after which William worked as a manager and accountant for Cobb & Co. He is buried with his wife and daughter....and next to the grave of his son Alfred Deakin and Alfred's wife Pattie Deakin at St Kilda Cemetery.
