John Barber was born in County Antrim, Ireland. He arrived in the Americas via Charlestown, S.C. aboard the ship the "Pennsylvania Farmer". He received a Royal Grant for 100 acres of land in the year of 1773. He Served in the State Militia of South Carolina in 1782.
He married Mary Agnew Barber abt. 1790. in York, South Carolina. The had eight children. He died June 05, 1843 in York County, South Carolina.
