Daughter of John and Ann (Hall) Relph, of Wigton. She was baptized on 23 Nov 1831 at Wigton Parish, Cumbria, England. In Apr 1841 she was living with her parents, in at the farm in Seaville, Holme Cultram Parish, Cumbria.

On 16 Mar 1844 her father, John Relph, died at age 44 at Seaville.

On 1 Jul 1854 Margaret, age 22, married John Gill, son of John Gill, at Saint John's Parish Church, Preston, Lancashire, England, by certificate. Witnesses were James Fippean and Ann Hodgson.
They had four children - John 1855, William 1857, Ellizabeth 1859, and Ann 1861.

On 2 Jan 1858 her brother, Joseph Relph, died at age 28 at Water Street, Wigton, Wigton Parish, Cumbria.

15 Dec 1860, her husband, John Gill died. The Preston Chronicle noted his passing:
Mr. John Gill, master of the Windermore railway station, and formerly guard on the Lancaster and Carlisle Railiway, aged 30.; Mr. John Gill... master, aged 30 years, after two days illness
