Adene Elwanda Barnes, 87, of Boonville, passed away October 3, 2020 at Ashley Manor in Boonville.

Adene was born in Snowball, Arkansas on June 9, 1933 a daughter of the late Camel and Pearl Watkins Hendrix. She married Johnny Barnes on December 12, 1951 in Marshall, Arkansas. Johnny preceded her in death on December 7, 2010.

Prior to retirement, Adene was employed as a nurse’s aide at St. Joseph Hospital and later Cooper County Memorial Hospital both in Boonville and she also worked as an ambulance attendant for the county ambulance service. She also formerly owned and operated Barnes’ Used Furniture and assisted with the family auction service. Adene was a member of Bible Baptist Church in New Franklin.

Survivors include two sons, Gary Barnes (Teresa) of Boonville and Larry Barnes (Lenora) of New Franklin; son-in-law, Tom Briles; grandchildren, Hannah Fitzgerald (Darren) of Round Rock, Texas, Tim Barnes (Kirsten) of Andover, Kansas, Angie Skaggs (Billy) of New Franklin, April Mullett of LaMont, Missouri, Christina Rodriquez of Chillicothe, Michael Barnes of San Antonio, Texas, Hannah Marie Barnes of San Antonio and Keaton, Kiley and Kellen Barnes of Boonville. Also surviving are sixteen great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Adene was preceded in death by a son, Lewis Barnes; a daughter, Anita Briles; two sisters, Clona Harris and Jearlene McMullins and a brother, Eugene Hendrix.

Private family graveside service will be held at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in New Franklin with Rev. Tim Fairley officiating. A private family viewing will precede the service at Markland-Yager Funeral Home in New Franklin.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Mt. Pleasant Cemetery Association or Bible Baptist Church.
