Alexandra Michaelovna Glazunov
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alexandra Glazunov in Greenbrae, just 12 days shy of her 101st birthday, after a short and very sudden worsening of her health.
Alexandra was born in Harbin, China, where she got her early education and met her husband, Serge. They were married in 1937 and emigrated to the US on their honeymoon. They settled in San Francisco where Serge, an engineer, worked at Marinship on Liberty Ships during World War II. After the war her husband was hired by Arabian American Oil company and they moved to New York for a year and a half, and then to the Hague, Netherlands, for 7 years.
While living in Europe, Alexandra was very active in Diplomatic Corps functions and studied voice and enjoyed traveling through out Europe. Upon her return to the US in 1960 they settled in Greenbrae.
She graduated from College of Marin, Sonoma State College, and earned M.A. Degrees in psychology and sociology from Dominican College in San Rafael. She then proceeded to start the Marin County Diabetes Association and her pet project the Russian American Community Services in San Francisco, which developed from nothing to present which now consists of providing hundreds of meals a day for homebound seniors, and St. Olga's Home, a board and care facility in San Francisco.
She was predeceased by her husband of 42 years in 1978, as well as by her brothers, Porfiry, Alexander, and Victor; and her sister Lydia. She is survived by her son, Serge Glazunov DDS, his wife Margarita and grandson Serge Gregory, as well as by her nephews, Michael and Nicholas Berkoff and their families and by many other relatives.
Funeral services will be on Thursday, April 23 at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, San Anselmo.
