Funeral services for Nola H. Turner were held on Wednesday, Nov 16, 2005 at the Afton LDS Tabernacle. A viewing took place prior to the funeral services.
Nola Hoopes Turner passed away on November 12, 2005. She was born August 19, 1924 in Fairview to JULIAN HOOPES and SARAH LORILLA ALLRED. Nola was the third of six children.
Nola spent her early childhood in Fairview, where she attended school through the eighth grade. She then continued her education at Star Valley High School.
Nola attended Utah State Agricultural College. She married Milton Turner on August 19, 1943 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
The couple made their home in Turnerville. To this union five sons and four daughters were born. Nola and Milton moved to Afton in 1948.
After her marriage, Nola taught school in Turnerville for a year and did some substitute teaching in Thayne and Fairview for several more years. She worked as a cook for the LDS hospital and was later secretary for Valley Furniture Company.
Nola later was employed as a school office aid in Afton, worked at Star Valley Book and Music Company and also did some sewing and artwork for people.
On July 1, 1982, Milton bought BJ's Craft Shoppe, where Nola utilized her creative handiwork making various arts and crafts.
Nola enjoyed reading, sewing, singing, fishing, raising flowers, quilting, macrame, painting, traveling and entering items in the fair.
Nola was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held many different callings, including; Primary teacher, Sunday school teacher, Relief Society teacher, MIA drama director, gospel doctrine teacher, ward librarian and family history consultant.
Nola and Milton served missions to the Family History library in Salt Lake and the Mormon Handcart Visitor's Center at Martin's Cove.
Nola is survived by her nine children; two brothers; 41 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother Darrel, sister-in-law Barbara Ames hoopes, brother-in-law Richard Westover and daughter-in-law Karen Gardner Turner.
