Pope Paul VI appointed Huhn as Auxiliary Bishop of Görlitz at the age of 50, receiving his episcopal consecration with the Titular See of Tasaccora on December 11, 1971, from Bishop Gerhard Schaffran with by Bishops Heinrich Theissing and Johannes Kleineidam, acting as co-consecrators. On June 28, 1972, Msgr. Huhn was named Apostolic Administrator of Görlitz, a title he retained until his retirement following the elevation of the see to a diocese on June 27, 1994. Msgr. Rudolf Müller was named as the First Bishop of the newly erected diocese.
Bishop Huhn died at the age of 86, on Friday, September 14, 2007.
