ELAINE M. JOHNSON, 84, formerly of River Plaza, MIDDLETOWN, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Sept. 19, at the Visiting Nurses Association Hospice of St. Luke's, Lower Saucon Township, Pa. Elaine was born in Elizabeth. She married and raised her family in River Plaza, living there for 44 years. Elaine and Paul retired to Sebastian Inlet, Fla., where they lived for 16 years. Elaine was a stay-at-home mom and a talented artist who entered many of her works in various Monmouth County art shows. She worked at the River Plaza grade school library from 1969-76. In her spare time, she taught the neighborhood children how to oil-paint, for she loved teaching and sharing her talents. She was an active member of the Catholic Daughters and belonged to St. Sebastian Church, Sebastian, Fla.
Elaine was predeceased by her beloved husband of 60 years, Paul A. Johnson, in 2003. Surviving are five children, Gerald Johnson and his wife Patricia of Greenville, N.C., Alan Johnson and his wife Judy of Blairstown, Kathy Cochran and her companion Keith Carr of Marengo, Ohio, Kevin Johnson and his wife Barbara of Howell, and Suzanne Zitzman and her husband Randy of Newfoundland, Pa.; her sister, Annamarie Michels of Colorado Springs, Colo.; her brother, James Colohan of Bumpass, Va.; her three sisters-in-law, Margaret Johnson of Sebastian, Fla.; Helen Johnson of Little Silver, and Ginny Colohan of Atlanta; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. Friday at the Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 101 Chelsea Ave., Long Branch. Contributions may be sent to the Sandy Hook Foundation, Box 525, Lighthouse Keeper's Quarters, Fort Hancock, NJ 07732. Arrangements are entrusted to the Long Funeral Home, Bethlehem, Pa.
