Born in Fabianyka, Russia of German parents. Arrived in US on the SS President Lincoln on April 29, 1909. Name spelled Manthey but that was incorrect. Naturalized on 12/11/24. Married Maria Hildebrandt in 1916, father to Fredric George Mantei, Jr. and Robert William Mantei. He was my grandfather. He came to the US in 1909 and was a chef. At one time he owned his own restaurant. He liked the bottle and was hit by a bus and broke his leg. I remember playing "nurse" and taking care of him. He was a very gruff and silent man and not a soft cuddlely grandfather. He had two brothers and two sisters who came to America also: Henry Mantay (changed spelling at Ellis Island), Christopher Mantay, Wilhelmina Mantei Lasky Poole, Emilie Mantei Kuise. He had five grandchildren: Robert William Mantei, Judith Ann Mantei Braddick, Patricia Lynn Mantei Titko, William Mantei, and Gayle Mantei Myswinski. He had 8 great grandchildren: Brian Titko, Lori Braddick Johnson, Jason Titko, Jonathan Riede Braddick, Justin Titko, Ashley Tiko (not a misspelling - named changed), Kaitlyn Myswinski, and Keith Myswinski. Great great grandchildren: Courtney Titko, Nikole Tiko, Miranda Tiko, Gavin Titko, Noah Henry Johnson, Caden Titko.
