Allen Young Bean is the ninth born child, born in Jackson County, Tennessee. When a fire destroyed the family home in 1848, the family relocated to the top of the Cumberland Plateau in Jackson County, living on a point of the mountain that separates Tate's Cove and Devers' Cove in Big Coon Valley. At the beginning of the Civil War, he and six of his brothers joined the cause in Aug 6, 1861, joining Company G of the 34th Tennessee Infantry. All seven of the brothers survived the war and returned home, but other researches state that Allen lost a leg during the war. Very possible at the battle of Chickamauga, only bases on the dates as we know that he marries Elizabeth Arnold the next fall on Oct 13, 1964 in Jackson County. When Elizabeth dies and leaves him with very young children, he then marries Bettie Comer Dec 26 1869. He was living near Hurricane Creek in Paint Rock Valley in the 1880 census.
