He attended school in Ramona and Oldham. Alvin severed in the Navy during WW 2. After the war he returned to Oldham where he worked alongside his father in the blacksmith shop. Alvin also trained to be an electrician and learned construction skills. Alvin put his skills to use to help in the community. Alvin left South Dakota to assist his brother Darrel W. Groce and Darrel’s sons in the oil business. Alvin would travel back and forth between New York and South Dakota as needed. Alvin lived out the remaining part of his life in Bethel Lutheran Home in Madison. Due to Covid services will be postponed util late spring\early summer. Alvin will be laid to rest alongside his parents and his sister Doris in Romana.
