Able was born the son of Mathew Caudill and Sarah Webb. In 1842 in Kentucky he married Mary Ann Crace the daughter of Peter Crace and Anne Adams. Their children are; Sarah Caudill, Pleasant Caudill, Samuel Caudill, Maryann Caudill, Celia Caudill, Mathew Caudill, Mahala (Caudill) Conley, Rhonda Caudill, Henry J. Caudill, Abel H.
