Retired Railroad Man Passes Here
Lafe B. Compton, 73, retired Norfolk and Western conductor passed away at his home in Louisa Thursday morning at 3:30. He was the son of the late Jacob R. and Martha Kinner Compton and was born at Buchanan, Ky., July 22, 1871. He is survived by his wife, formerly Monia Blankenshhip, and by two sons, Joseph S. Compton, recently discharged from the U.S. Army after having served 6 years in the service and now at home and Ernest L. Compton, local business man, and by two brothers - Joe G. Compton of Jacksonville, Florida and J.R. Compton of Buchanan, Ky. Funeral services will be held at the Curtright Funeral Home on Saturday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. L.M. Rogers officiating. Due to failing health, Mr. Compton was forced to retire from the railroad in 1934. He moved from Portsmouth, Ohio to Louisa in 1937, residing on Perry Street. He was a member of the Louisa Methodist Church.
