Jane H. Baeder, 95, of Elyria passed away peacefully Sunday, November 22, 2020. She was born January 3, 1925 in Kalamazoo, Michigan to William and Ione Hawks. Her parents moved the family to Euclid, Ohio when Jane was five years old. Jane graduated from Euclid Shore High School in 1943 and received her Bachelor of Science in chemistry from Heidelberg College in 1947.

She married the late Robert Baeder June 12, 1948, and they lived together in Elyria for fifty-nine years. Jane was employed with General Motors Laboratories before starting her family. After her children were grown, Jane became a substitute teacher in the Elyria schools for fifteen years. Jane and her husband, Bob, were stalwart supporters of the Elyria schools and athletics, and they were season ticket holders for fifty-five years in the same two seats, always wearing their red and white.

Jane was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, Elyria and was a strong member of First Church Women. As her girls were growing up, she also volunteered at the Black River Girl Scouts Counsel. Jane was incredibly proud of her family and home and always made sure anyone visiting was made to feel a part of the family. Jane was an accomplished seamstress and knitter and an avid gardener. She passed her accomplishments on to her children and grandchildren, and she leaves nothing but beautiful memories.

Jane is survived by her daughters, Barbara Thomas (husband, Wayne) of Falmouth, Massachusetts, Peggy Wegner of Salem, Ohio, Sandy Daniels of Vermilion; and son David (wife Megan) Baeder of Avon. She is also survived by her grandchildren Gretchen Thomas Kane (husband Tim), Abra Thomas Larson (husband Hans), Tim Wegner (wife Mary), Jaime Daniels Thompson (husband Bruce), Chad Daniels (wife Stephanie) and Brittany, Patrick and Andrew Baeder; great-grandchildren, Harrison Kane, Erik and Elsje Larson, Theodore Wegner, Addilyn, Ava and Aria Thompson, and Reese Daniels.

Jane was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, Robert Baeder who passed away November 28, 2007; parents, William and Ione (nee Lambert) Hawks, sister Patricia George, brother William Lambert Hawks, and son-in-law Richard Wegner.

Jane’s entire family would like to acknowledge and send a heartfelt “Thank you!” to the nurses, aides, and staff of Amherst Manor Third floor. Your care, compassion and dedication to Jane these past five years is profoundly appreciated.

A private ceremony celebrating the life of Jane will be held in the future when her family is able to join together and renew their bonds of love through Jane, and of course, Bob.
