Alice was born on March 22, 1920, in Cumberland County, North Carolina to Dempsey Bryan Mayo and Mary Elizabeth Juhan Mayo. She was the fifth in a family of seven children and was raised in Ocala, Florida. Their family moved to St. Augustine, Florida where she graduated from Ketterlinus High School in 1941 and later trained to become a nurse. She met and married Herman McRae (Jack) Adams on August 7, 1948, at Flagler Memorial Presbyterian Church. The couple moved to Tallahassee in the early 1950s where they raised their family; and after retirement, enjoyed travel, golf, and grandchildren. Alice was a loving wife and mother, passing along her gentle manner and respect for others. She was an excellent cook, handing down many wonderful family recipes to her children.
She is survived by her youngest sister, Barbara Greb; her children Rebecca Adams, Cindy Hensley, Faye Webb, Priscilla Eubanks, and Jonathan Adams; well as her grandchildren; Brennan Cornell, Elizabeth Stathopoulos, Emily Hensley, Jonathan Webb, Julia Giroux, Joanna Wallace, Bryan Eubanks, Henry Crawford Adams, and twelve great-grandchildren.
Interment will be at Roselawn Cemetery beside her husband of sixty-three years. A service to honor her memory will be held for the family at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial to the Lighthouse Children's Home, 7771 Mahan Drive, Tallahassee, Florida 32309.
