Hubert Henry Abernathy, 82, passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2020.

He was born in Gaston County, the youngest of eight children, to the late Grier J. and Lucy Bynum Abernathy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Tracy Wayne; six brothers, Adolphus, Francis, David, Donald, Joe, and Grier, Jr.; one sister Beaulah Johnson. He was a graduate of Stanley High School. He was employed by A&P Meat Packing Plant in Charlotte for 23 years. Hubert began his car sale business and was owner of Abernathy Auto Stales in Stanley since 1972. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 62 years Eleanor Robinson Abernathy; two sons, Steven Hubert Abernathy and wife Donna of Charlotte, and Ronald Franklin Abernathy of Stanley; three grandchildren, Chase Abernathy and wife Cassie of Gastonia, Chelsea Turpin and husband Justin of Lincolnton, and Sara Abernathy of Stanley; four great grandchildren, Cole and Kalli Abernathy, Porter Turpin, and Micah Moody; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will greet guests from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at Christ's Lutheran Church, 203 S. Main Street in Stanley.

A funeral service to celebrate his life conducted by Rev. Wesley Frye, will be held immediately following at 2:00, also at the church.

Interment will follow the service at Hilcrest Gardens Cemetery in Mount Holly. Due to Covid, face masks and social distancing will apply, and during the visitation the family will greet with no contact.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Stanley Cemetery Ancestry Fund.

Arrangements are in the care of Woodlawn Funeral Home in Mount Holly.
