He was born March 6, 1925, a native of Gaston County, son of the late Grier and Lucy B. Abernathy.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Adolphus, David, Francis, Joe and Junior Abernathy and one sister, Beulah A. Johnson.
Mr. Abernathy worked for Gaston County Dyeing Machine Co. for over 25 years. He also worked for Clippard's Inc. for over 20 years and retired as service attendant from Brittan's Convenient Store.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years.

A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Abernathy will be at Lebanon United Methodist Church, 5033 Lebanon Church Road, (off Hwy. 150) Maiden, NC 28650, with the Rev. Gary Fulker officiating.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
