Joseph Casola, age 74, beloved husband, father and grandfather, war veteran, and successful business man, died at Mercy Southwest Hospital on Sept. 28, 2007, following a courageous battle with emphysema. Joe was born April 12, 1933, in Los Angeles, CA, to the late Ignacio and Pierina Coassolo, who owned a small vineyard in Newhall, CA. He attended William S. Hart High School in Newhall, CA. He served in the U.S. Army with the Sixth Infantry Division, during the Korean War and attained the rank of Sergeant. After the war, Joe married Judith Marie Johnson, and they had three children. Joe later divorced and moved to the San Fernando Valley, a suburb of Los Angeles, where he owned service stations and automotive repair shops. Joe married Bonnie George and have been sweethearts for the past 40 years. Joe and Bonnie raised their four children in the San Fernando Valley. Family and friends were Joe's first passion, and his kind, gentle spirit touched all those he came in contact with. He lived his life with gusto and spent his quality time with family enjoying boating, motorcycling, water and snow skiing, and travel. Another love of Joe's was his many pet animals. Though he had many health problems in later years, his will to live life to its fullest never waivered. Joe is survived by his wife, Bonnie; daughter and her husband, Cappie and Chris Craft; son and his wife, Cary and Vicki Casola; son, Corey; and step-son and wife, Michael and Suzi George. He adored his seven grandchildren: Kimmie, Chase and Chelsea Craft; Kristjan and Shandra Casola; and Lindsay and Leah George. A graveside service will be Friday, October 5, 2007 at 2:30 p.m. at the Greenlawn Southwest Cemetery, 2739 Panama Lane, Bakersfield, CA 93313. A memorial service will follow in the Greenlawn chapel at 3:00 p.m. A reception will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the White Oak Clubhouse, 2209 Snowdrop Drive, Bakersfield, CA 93311.
