Our Mama Lydia is now rejoicing in heaven with Our Lord Jesus. She joined him on October 4, 2007. We salute her life of achievements. Aside from being a great wife, mother, grandmother and sister she dedicated her life to helping people. She was a practicing RN in the field of Urology for forty-nine years. Lydia was born in Douglas, AZ on June 7th, 1937. Her family moved to El Paso in 1946. She went to grade school at St. Mary's and graduated from Loretto Academy in 1955. Her nursing career started at Hotel Dieu Hospital where she received her Nursing Board in 1958. She went on to receive her AUA Allied Boards (American Urological Assoc.) in 1976. She was the first Urologic RN in the state of Texas to pass her boards, then went on to work for Drs. Curtis, Bozzell and then finished her career with Dr. Dickey. She also proudly contributed her nursing skills to help many of the U.T.E.P Athletes. She retired in 1998. Mama Lydia enjoyed traveling with her family after retirement. She loved and adored her dear husband Billy for the twenty three years they were married. She dedicated her life in so many different ways to her children. "No" was never part of her vocabulary. She enjoyed being around family more than anything else. Sunday dinners were like a "special holiday" to Lydia. She will be greatly missed by the people who knew her professionally but especially missed by her large family. Preceded in death by her parents Joe and Alicia Alvarez, her brother Fr.
