Joan Evans Welch passed away from Heart Failure October 4, 2007 in Cedar City, Utah, shortly after holding her newest granddaughter, Nicole Joan Jacobsen, who was born four days earlier on Sept. 30th. Joan was born September 28, 1930 in Lehi, Utah, to Ruel and Beulah Bone Evans. She married Raymond Dean Welch on August 18, 1950 in the Manti Temple and they were the parents of seven children. They were later divorced.

Joan was an accomplished pianist and organist who played at over a hundred funerals and served as her ward organist for nearly fifty years. She had a passion for Utah Jazz basketball, BYU football, and any musical or athletic event involving her 36 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She taught piano lessons while she was raising her family and later worked in the medical offices of Dr. Gordon Glade, her brother Dr. Michael Evans, and her oldest son, Dr. Kerry Welch. She was also employed for nearly 10 years at Modus Media.

Joan's kind heart and unpretentious demeanor touched countless lives of family members and friends. She lived a simple and selfless life which she filled with letters to missionaries, morning walks with friends at the Lehi Legacy Center, good books, tending flowers, and the companionship of her dearest friend and sister, Colleen Abate.

Joan is survived by her seven children, Kerry D. (Pam), Alpine; Marc R. (Carolyn), Boston, MA; M. Tim (Michele), American Fork; John M. (Debra), Provo; Robert B. (Robyn), Kent, WA; Dan E. (Kristi), Cedar Hills; and Jan Jacobsen (Jason), Cedar City.

Funeral Services will be held Tues. October 9, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the Lehi Stake Center, 200 North Center Street. Friends and family may call on Monday, Oct. 8th from 6-8 p.m. at the Wing Mortuary, 118 E. Main, Lehi, and at the church on Tuesday from 9:30-10:30 a.m.
Interment, Lehi City Cemetery.
