---- Obits:

The Cedar Rapids Evening Gazette
Tues., May 12, 1891, p. 4, col. 2

__The remains of Anthony Staves who departed this life at Des Moines yesterday¹ morning, arrived here early this morning and (was) retaked to the residence of his son M. C. Staves, 11 Twelfth avenue. The deceased was 90 years of age, an old resident of this city and was well and favorably known and respected by all. He was a member of the G. A. R. The funeral will take place from the Third Presbyterian church at 10 o'clock tomorrow, and interment will be made at Linwood cemetery on the West Side, Rev. Scott W. Smith officiating, assisted by Rev. I. K. Statton.

The Cedar Rapids Evening Gazette
Wed., May 13, 1891, p. 4, col. 1

__The funeral of Anthony Staves took place at 10 o'clock this morning from the Third Presbyterian church and services were conducted by Revs. I. K. Statton and Scott W. Smith.

¹ Yesterday? That would be Monday, May 11th. However, The Cedar Rapids Evening Gazette, Fri., May 30, 1913, p. 8, a list of soldiers buried in area cemeteries, says Anthony died May 10th. That date probably came from cemetery records. It's possible that the obituary was written Sunday and published without correction the following day. But that's just speculation.
