George F. Power, Was Father of War Hero

George F. Power, father of the Worcester Marine whose statue stands on the Franklin Street side of City Hall, died yesterday in his home, 38 Bellingham Road. He was 83.
Mr. Power's son, 1st LT. John V. Power, was killed in combat in the South Pacific during World War II, and was posthumously awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.
Mr. Power retired from the Worcester Police Force about 15 years ago. He joined the department in 1912 and patrolled the Waldo, Foster, Mechanic, Central and Summer streets area for many years.
Later he was assigned to City Hall.
Mr. Power was a member of the Worcester Police Relief Association and was a trustee of the World War Veterans Memorial Fund.
He was born in Millbury and lived in Worcester most of his life.
He leaves his widow, Margaret C. (Gilmartin) Power, three daughters, Mrs. Mary M. Chandley and Mrs. Patricia A. Rose, both of Worcester, and Mrs. Rita M. Donohue of Carlsbad, Calif., and several grandchildren.
