Civil War veteran: Union. Physician. He served on the Maysville City Council for twenty years. In 1864, he was a delegate to the National Convention. Former Whig Party member. Son of Charlotte (Marshall) and Dr. Basil Duke. Widower of Hannah Ann (Morton) Duke, to whom he was married October 25, 1834.

His parents are purported to be buried in the Marshall Family Cemetery in Mason County, Kentucky, but headstones do not exist.
