Reuben was a son of Peter and Mary Blue, born in 1798 or 1799 at a place that was then part of Northumberland County, but now part of Montour County, Pennsylvania. On April 12, 1820 he married Elizabeth Davis whose family line had emigrated from Wales to Philadelphia in 1709. Reuben and Elizabeth had eight children, of whom two died in infancy. Tragically, Elizabeth died March 25, 1841 at the age of 45 and Reuben died a couple of years later, leaving their children orphaned, although the older ones (Peter, age 22, Thomas, age 20, and Mary Jane, age 15) likely raised the three younger children, including David who was seven when he became orphaned. Within a few years Peter moved to Illinois where new lands were opening up in near Galesburg. In time David and many of the remaining children moved there.
