Mrs. Adelaide Blanchfield, 92, formerly of Trinity Place and most recently of Sarah Jane Sanford Home, Amsterdam, NY; passed away Sunday, January 3, 2021 at St. Mary’s Healthcare in Amsterdam.

Born in Amsterdam on April 14, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Vincent and Mary “Minnie” Damenica Sollecito.

Adelaide received her education in the Amsterdam school system and was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch Senior High School Class of 1945.

Adelaide was employed by William J. Kline & Sons, Inc; publishers of the Amsterdam Evening Recorder, where she started out in the mail room in the summer of 1944 after school recessed. At that time many newspapers were mailed out to service people and to rural areas.

Shortly after graduation in 1945, there was an opening in the Circulation Department, which she accepted and remained employed by the Recorder until her retirement in October of 1990.

Adelaide enjoyed learning and working on many different crafts. She also enjoyed traveling, especially to historic and scenic places.

She was a parishioner and communicant of St. Mary’s Church. She was a member of St. Mary’s seniors, holding the office of Vice President for two terms and was also Treasurer.

She was also a member of the Mount Carmel and Perth Seniors.

Her husband, James D. Blanchfield who she married November 30, 1963, passed away January 8, 1983.

Adelaide is survived by one sister, Virginia Makicki (Ron) of Amsterdam, NY and one brother, John J. Sollecito of Naples, FL.

She is also survived by and predeceased by many relatives.

Interment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fort Johnson, NY.
