Ismaela Encinas Blakey, 100, of Sierra Vista, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2015. Ismaela was born March 6, 1915 in Gleeson, Ariz. to Jose Maria Encinas and Theresa Apoderado.
She lived in Benson from 1943, where she and husband William C. Blakey had a family and were very active in the community, until 2008 when she moved to Sierra Vista to be with her daughter.
Smiles celebrated her 100th birthday with all her family and friends. The VFW Riders fulfilled a childhood wish of Smiles' to take a ride on a motorcycle. Smiles arrived at the party atop a Harley Davidson motorcycle with Dan "Gunny" Ferguson.
Smiles was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years William Blakey, and siblings Maria, Joe and Pasquel. She is survived by daughters Bea Hernandez of Sierra Vista and Barbara Adams (Jim) of Scottsdale. Grandchildren William Hernandez (Laurie), Diane Higby (Ed), Barbara Hernandez-Mosher, and Jennifer Adams. Great-grandchildren Blakey-Marie Mosher, Tyler Adams, John David Higbie, Kendall Fifield, Julian Hernandez (Tiffany), Brandy Lopez (Nick), and Kurt Craig (Kathy). Great-great grandchildren Julian Hernandez Jr., Sofia Hernandez, and RaeLene Craig. Sister Theresa of California and many nieces and nephews.
A tree has been planted in an Arizona National Forest in remembrance of Smiles by Sage Hospice of Scottsdale.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday. April 25, 2015 at Our Lady of Lourdes, Benson, Ariz. Interment at Cochise Gardens of Rest, in Benson. Arrangements are with Richardson's Remembrance Center, Benson. In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made to local charities.
