Mary Granahan Murphy, 807 N Main St., Pittston Junction, died Wednesday at Geisinger Hospital, Wyoming Valley, Plains Twp. She was preceded in death by her husband. Joseph T. Murphy, in 1973.
Born in Pittston, in 1898, daughter of the late John and Mary Clark Granahan, she was a graduate of Duryea High School and East Stroudsburg State Teachers College She also did post graduate work at Marywood College. She was a teacher at Duryea High School. Northeast High School. Pittston Area High School and St. John's High School, retiring several years ago. She was a member of St. Mary's Help of Christian Church, Pittston, and its Altar and Rosary Society and Marian Club.
Surviving are a son, Francis Xavier, Pittston: two brothers, Rev. Msgr. Leo A. Granahan, pastor, Ementus of St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Archbald, and John D. Granahan, West Pittston; a sister, Mrs. Agnes Jordan, West Pittston; 16 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph A. Granahan, and five sisters, Mrs. Helen Mayberry, Anna, Kathleen, Alice and Regina Granahan. The funeral will be Saturday at 10:30. a.m from the Donnelly-Callahan Funeral Home, 802 Susquehanna Ave., West Pittston, with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Hel of Christian Church, Pittston. Interment, St. John's Cemetery, Pittston.
