Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922
The following extract is from Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922 (2014) by J. Margaret Stansfield:

BEEVER, JOHN. Wireless Officer. Mercantile Marine. SS Connemara. Born Huddersfield 15.7.1894. Son of John and Emily M Beever, Woodland Mount, Bradford Road, Huddersfield. (His father was a uniform maker and hearth-rug manufacturer at Brook Street Mills.) Educated at Fartown Grammar School and Huddersfield Technical College where he studied woollen design. But his great love was the study of wireless apparatus and he erected a large wireless plant at his home. At the outbreak of war he attempted to enlist in both the Army and Navy but was rejected on numerous occasions as he was medically unfit. Twice offered a commission in the Royal Naval Air Service but again was rejected on medical grounds. Ultimately he succeeded in joining the L. and L.W. Passenger boat service as a wireless operator, 4.2.1915. Died at post on duty after sending out an SOS. on SS Connemara after she was sunk in a collision off the Irish Coast. Drowned 3.11.1916.

Buried in EDGERTON CEMETERY, HUDDERSFIELD.
