Catharine was the daughter of Henry and Anna Maria Dietrich Matter. In 1846, she married Philip Wilbert, the son of Peter Wilbert and Mary Enders Wilbert (1803-1875). The couple had 6 children. Catharine's sister, Rebecca, was the grandmother of President Dwight D. Eisenhower.
