Taltern McLindon was born about 1817 in South Carolina. About 1835 he married Airie Avery Whittle McLindon Hartley in Edgefield County, South Carolina, and they had six children: Thomas McLindon, William Henry McLindon/McClelland, Mary McLindon, Martha McLindon, John McLindon, and Emaline McLindon, all born in Edgefield County. Taltern died about age 34 on October 27, 1851 in Edgefield County and is probably buried in Edgefield County. His ancestry was Scots. Avery later married again to Daniel Archie Hartley, and they had two children together.
