Isabelle Buss Cephart, daughter of James and Isabelle Alwill, was born October 30, 1868 in Rock Island county, Illinois.
She came to Shelby county with her parents in 1881 and was united in marriage to Charles Buss August 7, 1890. They settled on the farm in Monroe township where they resided until they moved to Harlan, Iowa, December 26, 1912.
To this union two daughters were born, the elder daughter passing away at birth. Lydia Mae, now Mrs Charles E. Kintz remains.
In 1894 she joined the Monroe Methodist church, retaining her membership until she retired from the farm in 1912. Her membership was then transferred to the Harlan Methodist church.
She was Sunday school superintendent at Monroe M. E. church for a number of years. She worked in the Ladies Aid and Missionary societies as long as her health and strength would allow her to attend.
Mr Buss passed away March 7, 1933 and on January 17, 1939, she was united in marriage to Lee J. Cephart; who passed away January 20, 1940.
She lived alone until November, 1946 when her daughter and family came to live with her and care for her. She had been a semi-invalid since January 1949 and she entered the Memorial Home for further care in June, 1951 where she remained until her death, January 23, 1954.
Suvivors are her daughter, Mrs Charles E. Kintz; four grandaughters, Wilma M. Walters of Botna, Charlotte J. of Harlan, Joan O. Jackson of Austin, Texas; Annabel R. Schroder of Harlan; one step-granddaughter, Alice M. Kintz, Iowa City, Iowa. Twelve great grandchildren and one sister, Mrs W.J. Buss.
Six sisters and three brothers preceded her in death. They are Mrs Thomas Woonan, Mrs Fred Wahlof, Mrs Fred Rosabaugh, Mrs Chris Thorsen, Mrs S.R. Stewart and Mrs L.J. Cephart, Thomas B. Alwill, James R. Alwill and William A. Alwill.
Services were held Monday, January 25, from the Pauley funeral home with the Rev. A.H. Nelson in charge. Burial was in the Harlan cemetery.

Isabelle and her sister, Matilda, married brothers. Matilda's husband's name was William J. Buss.
