Abiram Orton was b. in 1776 in Tyringham, MA, the son of Thomas Orton and Sarah Atwood. By 1800, he and two brothers, Philo and Thomas had left western, MA and migrated to Augusta in central NY. Soon, both Philo and Abiram had moved on to western NY. Abiram purchased land in Arkwright in 1807 and was among the first settlers. He is first found in the 1810 census in Pomfret, then Niagara County, having married his first wife Sarah Ann Hinman. Sarah d. in 1832, and Abiram married a second time, to Susan Harrington, daughter of Jabez Harrington and Lydia Skiff.

Abiram Orton left no descendants. In census records, in addition to his wives, others were household members. Whether he had children who died young, is not known. It is known that family members of his wives lived with him.

Abiram Orton was a physician, and active community member.
