She was born Aug. 5, 1916 to Selmer and Ella (Basness) Christianson in Mower County, Minn. She married Tilmen Tollefson Oct. 6, 1934 in Albert Lea. In 1941 they moved to a farm near Hollandale where they raised vegetables. They lived there until moving to Blooming Prairie in 1978. Verlie loved to cook and bake. The family looked forward to her lefse. She crocheted and made quilts for the grandchildren, babysat and helped her family in many ways. A member of Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church, she belonged to Circle. Tilman passed away in 2002, and Verlie moved to Our House Assisted Living in Austin where she spent the past four years.
Survivors include one son, Darrel (Marlene) Tollefson of Burnsville, two daughters, Jean Gappa of Albert Lea and Judy (Robert) Remker of Blooming Prairie; 10 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Tilman; great granddaughter, Bethany; two sisters, Dorothy and Katherine; one brother, Virgil.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 25 at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church, rural Austin with the Reverend Bruce Falksen officiating. Friends may from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday at Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home and at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment is at Red Oak Grove Cemetery, rural Austin.
