Milton Carl "Hank" Hankins, 80, of Burden, passed away Friday, March 5, 2021 at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. Graveside memorial services and military committal honors are at 2 p.m. Monday, March 15 at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Miles Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Milton's name for Wounded Warriors. Contributions can be made through the funeral home. Online condolences can be made at ww.milesfuneralservice.com. Born Nov. 14, 1940, in Dexter, he was the son of Carl Parker and Silver Evelyn (Barnhart) Hankins. He was raised and received his education in Dexter, graduating from Dexter High School in 1959. Following high school graduation, Milton joined the U.S. Army. He served with the military police and was part of the K9 unit, as well as an undercover air marshal. He retired as a master sergeant after 21 years of service. He was united in marriage to Laura Schneider on July 5, 1996, in Miami, Okla. The couple made their home in Burden. Milton went to work for the Winfield Correctional Facility. He reached the rank of lieutenant and retired in 2007 after another 21 years of service. He enjoyed tinkering with cars and especially enjoyed being ornery. In addition to his parents, Milton was preceded in death by two sisters, Silver Marie Mead and Mildred Pool. His family includes his wife, Laura Hankins, of Burden; his children, John Haemkin, of Sweden, Morgan Hankins, of Nebraska, Richard Hankins, of Rantoul, Robert Hankins, of Wichita, Dallas Tharp, of Shamong, N.J., Kathryn Jones, of Burden, Lauren Berg, of Lawrence, and Christina Hankins, of Atlanta; his brother, Charles Hankins, of Winfield; his parents-in-law, Mary and Richard Schneider, of Arkansas City; 25 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
