R.F. Streeper, 82, Dies at Home in Jacksonville, Fla.
Former Alton Resident Had Resided in South Since 1931
Richard Frank Streeper, a native of Upper Alton and a resident here until eight years ago, died Thursday at 1:50 p.m., at Jacksonville, Fla., where he had made his home with a daughter, Mrs. Benjamin Dotson, since 1931. He was 82 years old.
Mr. Streeper was a member of an old family in the Upper Alton area and was a brother of the late C.N. Streeper. He was born June 11, 1857.
For many years he had followed the carpenter trade and for some time had been employed by an Alton lumber company.
In November he had suffered an attack of illness but apparently had recovered from that to the extent that he was able to be up again. Recently he was again stricken ill and Alton relatives were notified that his condition was serious.
Wednesday evening a brother, I.H. Streeper, Sr., and a nephew, Robert Streeper, left for Florida after they had received word that his condition was critical, but they did not reach his bedside before his death.
They were not expected to arrive in Jacksonville until 4 a.m. today.
Surviving besides the brother, I.H. Streeper, are two other brothers, Robert H., of Oakland, Calif., and Wilbur of Alton. He also leaves four children, Mrs. Dotson, Mrs. Mary Stalker of Pittsburgh, Pa., Mrs. E. Knox of Calvert, Ala., and Frank Streeper of Miami, Fla.
The body is being brought to Alton for funeral rites and burial. The funeral will be held Sunday at 3L30 p.m. at Streeper Funeral Home and burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. The body is expected to arrive here about 10 a.m., Sunday and will be taken directly to the funeral home where friends may call until hour of the service.
