Mildred was born on August 5, 1926 in Floyd County to J.W. Sr and Bessie (Davis) Damron. She graduated from Plainview High School in 1944. After graduation she stayed home to help on the family farm until she met the love of her life, J.L Whitmire. Mildred and J.L. were married on December 7, 1947 at the Claytonville Baptist Church and moved to Dalhart for about three years where they farmed right by the state line through the bitterly cold weather and the blazing hot sun. They moved to Tulia and started farming Southeast of town. She taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School at the Kress Baptist Church. When Dianne and Jayleen started going to school in Tulia, they became members of the First Baptist Church in Tulia. Mildred and J.L. were members of the Golden Spread Farmers Market for many years. Mildred stayed home to take care of J.L. until his death. She loved to take care of people and loved to visit the residents at the nursing home and the Swisher Memorial Hospital Residential Living Center. She enjoyed canning food and gardening, but most of all she loved her family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband; J.L. Whitmire, her daughter; Jayleen Wilfong, four brothers and one sister.

She is survived by her daughter; Dianne Whitmire of Amarillo, her son-in-law: Garry Wilfong of Tulia, her grandchildren; Craig Wilfong and wife Buffy of Amarillo and Vicki Bevly and husband Andrew of Lubbock, her great grandchildren; Kenna Wilfong and Rhett Wilfong both of Amarillo and Kathryn Bevly and Caroline Bevly both of Lubbock.
