Katie Will Edmondson Carter, 83, of Jackson, died of cancer, July 19, 2001, at her son's residence in Raymond. She was a retired school teacher. She was the widow of Watt Carter, long-time educator, state land commissioner, and prominent Masonic leader. She was a native of Calhoun County who had retired in Jackson since 1968. She was a member of Colonial Heights Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was a graduate of Blue Mountain College where she was a member of the Eunomian Society. She was a long-time resident of Vardaman where she taught school. She was active in the Calhoun City Chapter #200, Order of the Eastern Star, and served as Worthy Matron and District Deputy Grand Mason. She was a former member of Delta Kappa Gamma Professional Sorority, WDC, and Official Mississippi Wives Club.
Funeral services were held July 21 at Nowell-Flippin Funeral Home in Ridgeland with burial in Antioch Cemetery in Calhoun County.
She is survived by two sons, Dr. Joe Jon Carter and Phil Carter, both of Jackson, one brother, Joe Moore Edmondon of Collierville, TN; two grandchildren, Jon Watt Carter and Laura Leigh Carter, both of Jackson; two nieces, Nan McGahey Baker and Louise McGahey Caffey, both of Winona.
Memorials may be made to Colonial Heights Baptist Church in Jackson, Antioch Baptist Church in Bruce, and Vardaman Baptist Church in Vardaman. Lee Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
