Professional Football Player. He played the tight end position for the Dallas Texans/Kansas City Chiefs of both the American and National Football Leagues from 1961 to 1970. After playing football collegiately at Michigan State University, he was drafted by both the then Dallas Texans of the American Football League and the St. Louis Cardinals of the National Football League in the respective 1961 drafts. He missed the 1961 season due to an injury, but went on to play for the Texans (later Kansas City Chiefs) for the next nine seasons before retiring after the 1970 season. During his career with the Texans/Chiefs, he caught 198 passes for 3,101 yards and had 34 touchdowns. He was a member of the Chiefs' American Football League championship teams in 1966 and 1969 and played in both Super Bowl I and IV. His football career was later honored by being named to the All-Time AFL team by the Pro Football Hall of Fame and by being inducted in to the Chiefs Hall of Fame. After his football career ended, he went into local government service by serving on the Jackson County (Missouri) board for forty years.
