Mark Sheridan Lutz, 44, was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John S. Lutz of Frederick, MD. He was born in New York City and since the early 1980's has lived in Connecticut. He died suddenly of heart failure Monday, (December 24, 2001) while visiting his family for the Christmas holiday. Mr. Lutz was the grandson of the late labor leader, George Meany. Mr. Lutz was a 1978 graduate of St. Mary's College of Maryland in St. Mary's City and received his Juris Doctor degree from Quinnipiac University in Bridgeport in 1983. Following law school, he worked for the New Haven Superior Court. In the late 1980's, Mr. Lutz became the Assistant Clerk of the Superior Court of Litchfield, handling the entire civil case flow for that court. Most recently, he was appointed the Assistant Clerk in the court's criminal division. As a parishioner of St. Anthony's Church in Litchfield, Mr. Lutz was very active, serving as a Eucharistic Minister, a Youth Maine Minister and founding the Church's Thursday Evening Adoration. Through the Youth Maine Ministry, for several consecutive years he chaperoned groups of young parishioner to Orland, Maine to participate in repairing and restoring homes for underprivileged families through the organization HOME Inc. In addition, Mr. Lutz served as an adjunct professor at Northwestern Connecticut Community College. Mr. Lutz is survived by his parents, and by four siblings, George Lutz of Reading, PA, Andrew Lutz of Baltimore, MD, Matthew Lutz of Frederick and Ellen Lutz O'Rourke of Saratoga Springs, NY. He is also survived by his four nephews William and Paul Lutz of Reading and Matthew and Daniel O'Rourke. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, 11 a.m. Saturday, December 29, St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, 49 South Street, Litchfield. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to HOME Inc., P.O. Box 10, Orland, ME 04472.
