DR. HARRY "SPITZER" ELIAS (83) Harry Elias was born on May 25, 1924 in El Paso to Harry Elias and Soledad (Montes) Elias. He left this world on October 27, 2007. Dr. Elias has a very interesting life. He attended Bowie High School, where he was involved in the band (playing trumpet) and also playing football. His nickname there was Spitzer. After high school he volunteered for the U.S. Army, and served in the South Pacific, particularly Manila. He received many service awards and was wounded and out of the Army when he was 21. After that he returned to the states, majored in music at UCLA, and has been involved in local music since 1957. He was distinguished by playing Dixieland Jazz and other kinds of music with several bands. He was a Special Education teacher with Ysleta and El Paso school districts, teaching for approximately 30 years. In 1977 he received his doctorate in Psychology and served as a counselor/psychologist for the remainder of his career. Dr. Elias is survived by his widow, Dr. Lois Elias, and his sister Estela Garcia. He has three children: his sons, Harry Elias and Thomas Olson, his daughter Sandra Walker. He has five grandchildren: Chris Elias, Laura Siaki, Sonny Jensen, Crysta Elias, and Courtney Olson and numerous great grandchildren. Rosary will be at Martin Funeral Home East with visitation from 4-6 and rosary from 7-8 Thursday, November 1. Funeral will be at St. Pius Church at 12:00 on Nov. 2, interment will be at Ft.Bliss Cemetery at 1:30 on Nov. 2, and a reception will follow from 2-6 at Knights of Columbus Hall on Howze Street. Flowers should be sent to Martin Funeral Home on Montana. Honorary pallbearers will be: Willard McDaniel, Jerry Johnson, Henry Jurado, Al Velarde, Luigi Pelicano, Arturo Silva, Edmond Beaudoin, and Jeff Kracht. During the last week of his life Harry said, "I'm 83 years old, and I have lead a good life. If God wants to take me, I am ready." He would want all his friends to celebrate his good and caring life, and to remember him always happy.
