Homer Buck was born near Trumansburgh, New York, May 8, 1799 and died at Wapella, Illinois, November 22, 1878.

He was joined in wedlock to Mary Jeffrey, February 27, 1832, by Rev. Mr. Thomas, a prominent Baptist clergy man.

He followed farming until eighteen years of age, when he learned the trade of a tanner. Having married in 1823, he plied his calling until 1843, when having saved some money he purchased a farm near Wapella, Illinois, Dewitt County, on which he resided and pursued farming successfully until his death.

Mr. & Mrs. Buck were respected and loved by a large circle of friends and neighbors. They early joined the Presbyterian Church at Wapella, in which Homer remained an active member until his death, and was for many years a leading elder.

Although a stiff Presbyterian, Homer took the liberal side of all great questions of the day. He and his family were strong Republicans and Unionists, two of the sons giving their lives as a sacrifice on the altar of their country.

Mary Jeffrey Buck survives her honored husband, wearing lightly the burdens of her more than four score years of earthly pilgrimage.
