Paul M. Weber, age 79, of Kiel died peacefully on Thursday morning, May 20, 2021 at Field of Dreams Assisted Living, Kiel.
Paul was born on February 10, 1942 in Marytown, son of the late Claude and Anna (Aulbach) Weber. He attended St. Fidelis Catholic School in Meeme and was a 1960 graduate of Kiel High School. Paul was a proud member of the U.S. Army, serving from 1960 until 1963. He often talked about serving during the Cuban Missile Crisis and touring various countries in Europe. While in the Army, Paul had the opportunity to watch the Wisconsin Badgers in the 1963 Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA. During his time in the Army, he was united in marriage to Lois Jacobsen on December 30, 1961 at Holy Name Catholic Church, Sheboygan.
After military service, Paul attended the National School of Meat Cutting in Toledo, OH, and worked for various grocery stores as a meat cutter throughout his career. Paul and Lois took over her parents' farm outside of Kiel – initially raising sheep – and transformed it into a true hobby farm. In addition to raising livestock and poultry, he also maintained a licensed game farm and raised pheasants, quail and wild turkeys. He often brought his incubator to the Kiel elementary school for students to enjoy the pheasant chicks. Paul and Lois moved to Florence, WI in 1994 where he worked as a DNR invasive species technician before retirement.
Paul was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. He was active with the School Hill Men's Club and School Hill Trap Club. In his younger years, he also coached his children in Pee Wee baseball. Paul had a love for the great outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, cross country skiing, gardening, and had a love for birds and animals – most notably his dog Nikki. Paul was proud of the cabin he built with the assistance of his children. In his later years, Paul enjoyed his many Amtrak trips to Oregon to visit his daughter's family, sometimes accompanied by his grandchildren. He was a voracious reader, curious about the world around him, and loved talking about the weather with family and friends.
Paul is survived by his wife of 59 years: Lois, his children: Tony (Cynthia) Weber, Kingsford, MI; Wendy (Paul) Hartman, Greenville; Todd (Jennifer) Weber, Chilton; Patrick (Stephanie) Weber, Florence; Heidi (Mark) Weisel, Corvallis, OR. Grandchildren: Andrew & Adam Weber, Matthew & Erin Hartman, Lauren & Alexander Zink, Bailey & Samantha Weber, and Jack Weisel. He is further survived by a sister: Edna Backhaus, brothers: Andrew Weber and Eugene (Julie) Weber, along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Claude and Anna Weber, mother-in-law and father-in-law: Paul & Iva Jacobsen, brother and sisters: Joseph (Johanna) Weber, Marie (Claude) Lisowe, Dorothy (Robert) Herr, and brother-in-law: Roman Backhaus.
Per Paul's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, School Hill at 5:00PM on Wednesday, May 26, 2021. Officiating at the mass will be Fr. Carl Diedrichs, with burial to follow at the church cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends from 3:00PM until the time of service at 5:00PM. A dinner will be served in the church hall following burial.
