Mary Sue Carlson Parker, of Austin, passed away Monday, November 10, 2003. She was born to Walter and Lattie Phelps on February 1, 1919, in Orr, Oklahoma. Sue was an active member of Hyde Park Baptist Church. She and her late husband, Alfred were head of the college department and were the ``Austin parents' for many a lonely student suffering the pangs of homesickness. It was nothing unusual to have extra kids in the home and the family seldom ate an evening meal without an extra person at the table. Sue would always say, ``Sure, we have plenty.' And somehow they always did. During their school days, her children remember that when it came time for a field trip, the other kids in the class would beg them to ``ask your mother to go because she is `funner' than the other moms.' She is survived by her children, Suzanne Sauer and husband, Rick of Round Rock, Patricia Stovall and husband, Greg of Tyler, Nancy Van Hemert of Austin, David Parker and wife, Joyce of Austin, Patti Turner and husband, Jimmy of San Antonio and Penny Hughes and husband, Duane of Hartsell, Alabama; grandchildren, Jana Burns (Lexington, TX), Jeff Sauer (Austin), Molly Hudson (Marble Falls), Benjamin, Jeremy, David and Daniel Stovall (Tyler), Amy Delleney (Tyler), Scott Parker (Houston), Dallas Parker (Dallas), Jennifer Ellard (Santa Clara, CA), Sarah Turner (San Antonio), Angela Hines (Houston) and their families, including several great- grandchildren. Sue was fondly called ``Dear' by her grandchildren. In celebration of Sue's joyous spirit, feel free to wear bright, happy, colors. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., Thursday, November 13, 2003, at Cook-Walden Funeral Home . Graveside services will be held at 9:30 a.m., Friday, November 14, 2003, at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Hyde Park Baptist Church, 3901 Speedway. The family wants to especially thank the staff Heritage Duval Gardens for their compassionate and loving care.
