Mrs. Charles Eckerle Sr., 58, 122 S. Prospect Ave., Merrill, died at 4:30 a.m. today at a Wausau hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. Stephen's United Church of Christ in Merrill. The Rev. Dale Kuck and the Rev. Larry Bremer will officiate. Burial will be in Merrill Memorial Park. Friends may call at the Schram Funeral Home in Merrill from 2 p.m. Thursday until 10 a.m. Friday and at the church after 11 a.m. Friday.

The former Gladys Batchelder was born April 20, 1913, in Vinton, Iowa, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Batchelder. She married William Welk in October 1933. He died in September 1959. She was married on Sept. 16, 1961, to Charles Eckerle Sr. who survives.

Survivors, besides her husband, are a daughter, Mrs. Milton Krahn, Merrill Route 3; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Robert Tesch, Merrill Route 4; a son, William Welk, Kenosha; a stepson, Charles Eckerle Jr., Merrill Route 3; four sisters, Mrs. Victor Schreiber, Rhinelander, Mrs. Carl Henrichs, 607 Wisconsin St., Merrill, Mrs. Hollis Avery, Port Angeles, Wash., and Mrs. Lester David, Reno, Nev.; six brothers, Victor Batchelder, 508 Wisconsin St., Merrill, Howard and Delbert, both of Couer D'Alene, Idaho, Leland, Hay Forks, Idaho, Louis, Two Rivers, Alvin, Garden Grove, Calif.; and 16 grandchildren.
