ETHELYNN ST. JAMES Ethelynn "Lynn" Campbell St. James, satisfied with a life well-lived, full of love, laughter and travels, transitioned home to the Lord God July 27, 2014, surrounded by her family at home in Henderson.

Lynn was born June 2, 1939, in Chicago, and was the second daughter born to the late Garland W. and Virginia B. Campbell. She was educated by the Chicago Public School system and earned her bachelor of science in education and master's in early childhood development at Northern Illinois University.

Lynn was a founder of the Delta Omicron Chapter of AKA Sorority, Inc. during her undergrad studies. For 37 years, Lynn served at every educational level from pre-school through the University level, and at every rung of the career ladder with Chicago Public Schools from classroom teacher to assistant principal of Hirsch High School, principal of Pirie Elementary School, M.L.King High School and Lindblom Technical High School.

She loved her students with great zeal, and had a desire to see them excel beyond their potential. Prior to her appointment as chief education officer of the Chicago Public Schools by Mayor Richard M. Daley, Lynn served as co-director of the Chicago Forum For School Change at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and Brown University, which assists high schools in their restructuring efforts to personalize student learning.

Lynn's significant success in education has tremendously influenced the lives of thousands of students, teachers and administrators nationwide. She has received numerous prestigious awards, including being honored in Washington, D.C. as Principal of the Year for Illinois. Fall 2007, Lynn and her husband relocated to Henderson, where they have enjoyed their relaxing retirement days together with family and good friends.

Loving memories are cherished by her devoted husband, of 50 years, Lloyd St. James; daughter and son-in-law, Jill Lynn and Vincent E. Davis; grandson, Karriem Beyah II; sister, Marthann Campbell; and a host of cousins, brothers and sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces and friends. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. N.
