William Thomas Linton was born to William"Buck"and Clarissa Seagers Linton.
William T answered the call to defend his country July 31,1861 in Troy,Alabama where he enlisted as a Private in Co.I,15th Alabama Infantry Quitman Guards.He and his younger brother George W.enlisted at the same time.He also had an older brother Aaron Ellis who enlisted in the 60th Alabama Infantry Co.C.
William T was shot in the left knee with a minnie ball,twobuck shots in the left shoulder.He then was assigned to hospital duty at Stanton,VA.by orders of General Lee.After the hospital duty,he was then captured by hands of the enemy at Knoxville.Tennessee Nov.25,1863 in which he was sent to three union prison camps,Louisville Ky,Camp Chase and Rock Island.He was released on Oath of Allegiance June 18,1865.
All three brothers survived the war,with all being wounded.
On Sat.Oct.8,2011 at Martin Cemetery in Panola County, Texas,William Thomas Linton was honored with a Southern Cross Memorial Service by his Great Grandson George E.linton.In William T's honor,we had the United Daughters of the Confederacy,Order of the Confederate Rose,Lone Star Honor Guards and the rifle salute along with the playing of taps.Michelle Linton Brunson ,ggg-granddaughter of William T presented the family wreath.
After the war,William T.went back to Pike,Alabama and married my great grandmother Mary R Dukes July,10,1866.
They came to Rusk County,Texas about 1872.They reared nine children. George Linton- William Thomas Linton is my Great Grandfather.
