Killed by the Cars

Yesterday morning about 8 o'clock the news spread that a man had been killed by the cars at the railroad depot. A reporter of the Times immediately repaired to the scene of the accident and found the rumor to be only too true.

A man by the name of Chas. Kaminsky, a Polish laborer in the employment of the railroad company, was standing on the side track, about midway between the passenger depot and the freight depot, when he saw a train on the side track nearing him. He jumped over onto the main track, not seeing the cars which were being pushed on this track by the switch engine. The cars were so near that it was impossible to stop them, before the unfortunate man had been thrown under and crushed by the iron wheels. the cars passed over the upper part of his body, killing him instantly. Parties who witnessed the accident say it was horrible to behold the mangled mass of human flesh.

The accident is the result of no carelessness, either on the part of the deceased or on the part of those in charge of the train. It is an unfortunate accident, ordained by fate. On account of the noise made by the train he saw approaching, the poor man probably did not hear the train that brought him death.

The deceased was a married man, about thirty-three years of age. He leaves a wife and five children, the eldest of whom is eleven years of age.

They own a house and two lots in the Third Ward, but otherwise are poorly situated.
