Burkett, Eugene, 85, Middle Taylor Twp., died July 28, 2012 at home. Born September 29, 1926 in Nanty Glo, son of the late Celestine and Margaret (Boughamer) Burkett. Preceded in death by brother, Ronald Burkett; sister, Ann Hadarie and son-in-law, Jim Weinzierl. Survived by beloved wife of 65 years, the former Estelle Mixon, Johnstown; children, Margaret Weinzierl, Johnstown; Sally, married to Carl Allison; Linda, married to Stephen Zahoran and Deborah, married to Richard Sojak, all of Benshoff Hill and Eugene Jr., married to the former Tiffany Krieger, Texas; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and these brothers and sister, Isabelle, married to Steve Cherney, Benshoff Hill; Richard Burkett and wife Delores, Windber; Samuel Burkett, Morrellville; William Burkett and wife Beverly and Walter Burkett and wife Nancy, all of Harrisburg. Gene was a supervisor for Bethlehem Steel Corp., US Navy Veteran serving on the USS Bunker Hill, a member of the Johnstown Free Masons, Lodge 538, was the 10th member of the Middle Taylor Fire Company and served on the Ferndale School Board for 34 years and was president for 15 years. He was also a member of the Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethren. At the request of the deceased, there will be no viewing. Friends will be received from 10am until time of service at 11am Tuesday at the Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethren, Pastor Phillip A. King, officiating. Military rites will be performed by the Menoher Post 155 Ritual Team. Arrangements in care of the Hindman Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc., 146 Chandler Ave., "Exclusive Provider of Veterans and Family Memorial Care."
