BLUEWELL — Hampton Dixon Hill Sr., 82, of Bluewell, died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2007 at The Villages Hospital in Lady Lake, Fla. He was born Oct. 8, 1924, to Wiley and Blanche Hill in Coopers.
Hamp served as a proud member of the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He was a retired carpenter (Kitchen Builders) and a long time member of the Bramwell Presbyterian Church. He was also an ardent supporter of the Pinnacle Rock Foundation's annual children's fishing rodeo.
He is survived by two sons, Dick Hill (wife Reta) of Lady Lake, Fla. and Nick Hill (wife Judy) of St. Peters, Mo.; two grandsons, Jason Hill (wife Teresa) of Charlotte, N.C. and Dustin Hill of St. Peters, Mo.; one granddaughter, Nikole Marlock (husband James) of St Charles, Mo.; two great granddaughters, Katelyn and Courtney Hill of Charlotte, N.C.; and two sisters, Hattie Rigney of Salem, Va. and Dot James of Bluewell.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Louise Hill; two sons, Rick and David Hill; and one grandson, Ryan Hill.
Services will be held Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. at Craven-Shires Funeral Home with the Reverend Mick Patterson officiating. Burial will follow the service at Woodlawn Cemetery in Bluewell where military graveside honors will be performed by the West Virginia National Honor Guard.
Visitation will be Friday evening, Feb. 9, 2007, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Craven-Shires Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Pinnacle Rock Foundation in Hamp's name to specifically support the children's fishing rodeo. Donations should be sent to Craven-Shires Funeral Home, 3431 Coal Heritage Road, Bluefield, WV 24701.
